Pier Fishing

Corpus Christi is home to world-renowned fishing piers that offer anglers access to over-water fishing while providing safety and easy access to the shoreline. Head to North Padre Island and cast a line at Red Dot Pier and Cos Way Pier, two popular fishing spots that consistently draw enthusiastic anglers from all over the country. They are known for their spacious decks, family-friendly environment, lighting for nighttime fishing, and proximity to supply stores. Cast your line for Redfish, Trout, and Tarpon at Red Dot Pier and Speckled Trout and Black Drum at Cos Way Pier. Other options include Indian Point Pier in Portland, where you’ll find updated pier railing, lighting, a fish cleaning station, and more or head to the renovated Cole Park Pier with great lighting, ample fishing space, and stunning views.

Wade Fishing

Anglers who prefer standing in shallow water while casting their lines should opt for wade fishing, and Corpus Christi has some great locations for this type of immersive, hands-on fishing. With wade fishing, anglers connect closely with their surroundings and enjoy a more personal experience. Packery Channel Nature Park on North Padre Island is an ideal spot for wade fishing, offering easy access to the calm, shallow waters of the Laguna Madre. This 38-acre park features improved shoreline parking and two kayak launch areas, making it a convenient launch point for anglers on foot. Surrounded by native plantings, a protected oak motte, and scenic boardwalks, the park provides a peaceful, nature-rich setting while you cast for redfish or trout. With thoughtful conservation efforts and amenities like picnic areas and birding pavilions, it’s a serene and nature filled experience.

Fly Fishing

Fly fishing is a popular, yet unique and exciting way to explore the waters around Corpus Christi, with local bays ranking among the most productive fisheries along the Gulf Coast. A variety of saltwater species can be caught on fly rods year-round. Inshore anglers often target red drum and speckled trout, along with flounder, black drum, and sheepshead, especially on shallow grass flats during the early morning hours. For those venturing offshore, the Gulf of Mexico offers opportunities to hook kingfish, cobia, Jack Crevalle, and the coveted tarpon. For a one-of-a-kind fly-fishing adventure, set your sights on the Upper Laguna Madre and Nueces Bay.

Surf Fishing

The abundant stretches of easily accessible shoreline in Corpus Christi are great for this land-based fishing option. With over 70 miles of beach, and a thriving ecosystem teeming with a diverse array of marine life, Padre Island National Seashore is ideal for surf fishing. Shark, Redfish, and Trout are most targeted in the surf, while the backwaters of the Upper Laguna Madre offer excellent Trout, Redfish, Flounder, and Black Drum year-round. Please note that beyond the first four miles of beach, four-wheel-drive traction is recommended at Padre Island National Seashore.

Corpus Christi offers multiple convenient boat launch ramps, providing easy access to the city's stunning waterways, including the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi Bay. There are private ramps, including Bluff’s Landing and Marker 37 that may require a fee, and public ramps, including Billings and Packery Channel. All ramps are suitable for multiple boat sizes and water adventures, and they range anywhere from two to multiple lanes.
