The hotel business is booming in Corpus Christi…but not in the way you think. In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, nearly every hotel room in the Coastal Bend is full. Instead of flip flops trekking through the hotel lobby, you’ll find work boots throughout the hotels.

A quick glance at any online booking engine will tell you that there is little to no hotel availability in Corpus Christi. That’s because there are thousands of people in the Coastal Bend to help with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The stories after a hurricane are almost always about the debris and broken buildings and power outages – it’s also stories about the people helping to restore the “normal.” It’s the hundreds of different electrical companies hired by AEP Texas to restore the power. It’s the FEMA workers trying to help those that need it. It’s the volunteers picking up debris and helping strangers. It’s also the strangers bringing hot food in trailers and barbeque pits. And it’s the national and regional companies offering assistance in any way possible.
