A Legacy of Excellence

The Del Mar College Hospitality Management Program’s roots trace back 60 years. Originally starting as the Restaurant Management Program, the college expanded over time educational offerings and hands-on training to include Hotel Management, eventually evolving the program into its comprehensive Hospitality Management Program. The program prepares students for the vast world of hospitality, ranging from hotels to tourism and food service.

Education in Hospitality

Del Mar College’s Hospitality Management Program is built to equip students with the knowledge and skills to thrive in the hospitality industry.

The program offers two main educational paths:
  1. Hospitality Management Certificate – Designed as an occupational plan, this certificate includes 10 classes and 32 semester credit hours, typically completed in three semesters.
  2. Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Hospitality Management – A more comprehensive program requiring 20 classes and 60 semester credit hours over five semesters.

Both pathways provide a blend of theory and hands-on practice, allowing students to gain real-world experience that employers seek. The Hospitality Management Program also provides stackable awards, a unique aspect that allows students to progressively build their credentials by starting with the Certificate and then choosing to complete the AAS degree, creating a flexible learning path that aligns with their career goals and time commitments.

State-of-the-Art Learning Environment

The Hospitality Management Program is housed in the new Hospitality and Culinary Institute, deemed a Center of Excellence, on the Oso Creek Campus located at the intersection of Yorktown Boulevard and Rodd Field Road on Corpus Christi’s southside. This 59,561-square-foot facility is designed for immersive learning, featuring kitchen labs, a public-accessible teaching restaurant, and other ultramodern teaching spaces. This facility allows students to experience the real-world dynamics of the hospitality industry, ranging from preparing food to managing guest experiences.
