Sports Events in Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi holds many city-wide sporting events each year, showcasing the vibrant spirit of athleticism within the community. Among these highly anticipated annual gatherings are the Beach to Bay Relay Marathon, the Conquer the Coast Century Ride, the Buc Days Corpus Christi Rodeo, and many more.

Beach to Bay

Beach to Bay has been a local favorite since 1976 and has grown into one of the largest relay marathons in the United States. Runners and fun-seekers from all over the United States as well as Kenya, England, and Mexico converge in Corpus Christi to take on this six-leg marathon. Beach to Bay has become an annual tradition for many runners and boasts an annual registration rate of over 2,000 teams.

The entire course of the marathon totals approximately 26.2 miles of the Gulf Coast beach and pavement, including the JFK Causeway. Starting on the sands of North Padre Island, winding through Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, and ending at McCaughan Park along Corpus Christi’s scenic Shoreline Drive, the legs are roughly 4.4 miles each.

Conquer the Coast

Every year, cyclers from the Coastal Bend area, Texas, and beyond make their way to the Gulf Coast Capital for the Conquer the Coast Century Ride race. The annual tradition is in its 21st year and continues to grow as it earns its reputation of being one of the most unique rides in Texas. Cyclers can choose from 66-, 21-, and 10-mile rides for a cycling experience that delivers an unforgettable journey through scenic routes and a rewarding experience for riders of all skill levels. The 66-mile ride will put riders to the test in a journey through six different coastal communities.

From reaching the peak of the Harbor Bridge to journeying down the JFK Causeway and back to Whataburger Field, this challenging course will separate the joy riders from the die-hards. The 21-mile ride is designed to offer a little extra push and is perfect for intermediate level riders, while the 10-mile ride is a less strenuous ride designed to push yourself without overdoing it, and you can enjoy Corpus Christi’s most scenic views down Ocean Drive. As an added bonus, Corpus Christi’s year-round weather makes this destination fantastic for sporting events, year-round, and can quickly turn into a mini vacation with a ton of indoor and outdoor activities.

Buc Days CC Rodeo

Every year, the community gathers near the Corpus Christi Bayfront and American Bank Center to celebrate Buc Days, a culturally diverse event that brings multiple activities and entertainment to the Coastal Bend. One of those events is the highly anticipated Buc Days Rodeo, featuring the traditional rodeo events including saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, and mutton bustin’. In 2023, the PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour planned on visiting more than 25 cities, including Corpus Christi, and the tour joined the Buc Days Rodeo lineup.

The Velocity Tour is a nationally recognized bull riding competition featuring some of the world’s best riders as they go head-to-head with bulls in a live action, adrenaline fueled fight that is shown live on ESPN. It is the primary and most important qualifying series for bull riders to earn valuable points necessary to qualify for the PBR World Finals. The event is so popular that people from all around the world travel to see the riders compete to win first place in any three consecutive WCRA major rodeos for a chance to earn the ultimate $1 million dollar prize.
