Dog-Friendly Itinerary

in Corpus Christi

Your dog deserves a vacation, too. In Corpus Christi, you don't have to leave your best friend behind to enjoy everything the coast has to offer. From scenic waterfront walks and dog-friendly beaches to gardens, patios, and restaurants with special menus just for pups, there's no shortage of ways to experience the Gulf Coast Capital together. Follow this two-day dog-friendly itinerary to discover some of the best places to eat, explore, and unwind with your favorite travel buddy by your side.

Day One: Enjoy Downtown Adventures

Start Your Morning on the Bayfront

Kick off your dog-friendly weekend in Corpus Christi with a coffee from Lucy's Snackbar before heading to the Bayfront. Take a stroll along the Downtown Seawall, stop by the Selena Mirador de La Flor for a photo, explore the People's Street and Lawrence T-Heads, or let your pup burn off some energy at Vishal Bhagat Dog Park at Water's Edge Park. The fully enclosed park features separate off-leash areas for large and small dogs, along with shaded picnic tables, pet waste stations, and plenty of room to run and play.

Looking for a unique way to experience the coast with your pup? If weather conditions allow, join a SUP with Your PUP community paddle through Water Dog Floating Yoga, SUP & Barre. Bring your own paddleboard and enjoy a guided paddle around Corpus Christi Bay with your dog by your side. Dogs must wear a life vest and leash, be well behaved, and have previous paddle experience.

From there, spend the afternoon exploring some of the best dog-friendly beaches in Corpus Christi. Stay downtown and relax at McGee Beach, where calm waters and plush sand create the perfect setting for a laid-back beach day close to restaurants and attractions. If you take a short drive over the new Harbor Bridge, you'll also find North Beach where you can also enjoy another pet-friendly shoreline with views of the USS Lexington Museum. Dogs are welcome on both beaches but must remain on a leash. Wherever the day takes you, be sure to pack plenty of fresh water, a collapsible bowl, and anything else your pup needs to stay cool in the coastal sun.

Dog-Friendly Restaurants

After a morning outdoors, you'll find plenty of dog-friendly restaurants in Corpus Christi where everyone gets to enjoy a great meal. Located at People's Street T-Heads, Harrison's Landing pairs waterfront views with a menu full of seafood, burgers, and fresh salads. Dogs are just as welcome and can order from their own menu featuring grilled chicken, beef, steamed rice, or even a Pup Cup. You can also bring your pup to Nueces Brewing, where leashed dogs are welcome both inside and on the patio. Relax with house-brewed beer, smoked barbecue, and a game of cornhole while your dog enjoys the evening breeze alongside you.

If you're spending the afternoon on North Beach, Pier 99 is another must-visit. Overlooking the USS Lexington Museum, the restaurant offers one of the city's most impressive dog menus. Your pup can choose from meals like the Good Dog with chicken and rice, Belly Rub with a beef patty and rice, Pier Chow made with beef, carrots, rice, and eggs, Fetch with grilled fish and rice, or Lady & the Tramp featuring beef and noodles.

Day Two: Island Beach Day

Gardens, Beaches & Coastal Views

Start your morning on Corpus Christi's Southside at the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome to explore the outdoor gardens, provided they remain on sidewalks, pathways, and trails. Filled with colorful blooms, tropical plants, and scenic walkways, it's one of the city's best places to capture vacation photos with your pup before making your way to Padre Island.

Afterward, head to Padre Island and spend the afternoon exploring miles of dog-friendly beaches along the Gulf. Whether you're taking a leisurely walk, playing fetch in the sand, or simply relaxing by the water, there's plenty of room for your pup to enjoy the coast. Leashed dogs, or well-behaved dogs under verbal command, are welcome on most Corpus Christi beaches. If you're visiting during a major holiday, keep in mind that dogs are not permitted on the Access Road 3 to Zahn Beach area. Instead, head to nearby Padre Balli Park, where leashed pups are welcome to enjoy the shoreline. If you're looking to explore even more coastline, Mustang Island State Park welcomes leashed dogs along five miles of beach, excluding designated swimming areas.

Planning to stay all day? Skip hauling all your beach gear and rent a Love Shack Tiki Hut on Padre Island. Available for the day, each private setup includes hammock swings, Bluetooth speakers, bar seating, a mini refrigerator, an ice chest, and even a Margaritaville margarita machine. Best of all, the shaded setup gives both you and your pup a comfortable place to cool off between beach adventures.

Dog-Friendly Restaurants on Padre Island

Whether you're looking for a quick bite before the beach or a relaxing dinner overlooking the water, Padre Island is home to several dog-friendly restaurants worth adding to your itinerary. For coffee, breakfast, or a light lunch, stop by Island Joe's. Built from colorful shipping containers, this laid-back café serves specialty coffee with homemade flavor syrups, biscuits, breakfast favorites, and other quick bites, all with a welcoming dog-friendly patio.

If you're ready for a full meal, Brewster Street Ice House - Padre Island offers a covered patio where dogs are welcome while you enjoy Southern favorites like burgers, seafood, and chicken fried steak. For fresh Gulf seafood and waterfront views, head to Doc's Seafood & Steaks. The spacious deck welcomes dogs while you enjoy coastal classics, crab cakes, stuffed flounder, and margaritas overlooking the water.
