North Packery Beach, locally referred to as J.P. Luby, is a watersports wonderland for surfing, jet-skiing, kiteboarding, wakeboarding, and more. This beach stays packed with visitors, locals, and families throughout the year.
Outdoor adventures abound at North Packery. Here you’ll discover some of the best surfing conditions in the area, due to offshore winds from the northwest. Surf fishing is also a popular activity, as the warm waters of the Gulf practically ensure success for those dropping a line. If sunbathing and a leisurely swim are more your speed, head down to the sectioned-off areas designated specifically for swimmers during the summer months.
You can access North Packery Beach at Zahn Rd or Newport Pass Rd from SH 361. Be sure to purchase a parking permit before your arrival to ensure you can park on the beach!

Pick up a complimentary trash bag or two from the Visitor Information Center downtown or from the blue boxes that are located as you come onto the beach at all access roads. These bags are cleverly designed so they leave sand behind and won’t catch the wind and fly off down the beach. Trash cans can be found at every beach entrance and all along the beach. Thanks for doing your part to leave our beaches better for the next visitor!
