Mustang Island State Park offers a perfectly serene vacation spot featuring miles of sandy beach for a memorable day, weekend, or week-long trip. Mustang Beach, part of the state park, is an 18-mile-long barrier island on the Texas coast with great on-beach camping, beachcombing, turtles, dolphins, birds, and more.
Camping options also abound at Mustang Island State Park. Stay at one of the 48 water and electric campsites or choose among 50 drive-up primitive sites. Water, cold-water rinse showers, and portable toilets can also be found along a two-mile stretch of the beach, and full restrooms and showers with hot water are also accessible.
The entrance to the protected area of Mustang Island State Park is available year-round for visitors interested in bird-watching, shallow-water fishing paddling excursions, and sea turtle hatchings. From combing the surf-pounded sands for unique seashells to marveling at nature, Mustang Island Park is truly the perfect place to spend an afternoon, a weekend, or a lifetime.
HOW TO GET THERE
You can access Mustang Island State Park from Gulf Beach Rd from SH 361. You can also access other parts of Mustang Island State Park from Newport Pass Rd and Access Rd 3 from SH 361.
FEES & PASSES
The fee for park entry is $7 per day, per person 13 and over. Campsite fees are separate. Reservations for both day passes and camping are recommended and can be made either online or by phone at (512) 389-8900.

You can access Mustang Island State Park from S Padre Island Dr to SH 361. Once you turn onto SH 361, go five miles north to park headquarters, for a total distance of about 22 miles. The physical address of the park is 17047 State Highway 361.

Pets are allowed in Mustang Island State Park but must be on a leash at all times.

There are no lifeguards that patrol the beach at Mustang Island State Park. Swimming and other water activities are done at your own risk.

Pick up a complimentary trash bag or two from the Visitor Information Center downtown. These bags are cleverly designed so they leave sand behind and won’t catch the wind and fly off down the beach. Trash cans can be found at every beach entrance and all along the beach. Thanks for doing your part to leave our beaches better for the next visitor!
