3-Day

Corpus Christi Family Itinerary

Get ready for three days of family adventures across the Gulf Coast Capital, from must-see attractions and hands-on experiences to beach time, games, and plenty of good food along the way. This Corpus Christi family itinerary mixes some of the city's favorite stops with time outside and kid-approved places to eat, giving families plenty to do without making every day feel the same.

Day One: Explore Attractions

Explore the Texas State Aquarium

Start your family adventure at the Texas State Aquarium, where more than 250 species, immersive exhibits, and hands-on experiences give kids plenty to explore. Let them climb, crawl, and play inside the Ocean Odyssey indoor play area, or bring swimsuits for time at the H-E-B Splash Park. On Saturdays and Sundays, stop by the Wildlife Rescue Center for a behind-the-scenes look at how sea turtles, marine mammals, birds, and other wildlife are rehabilitated and cared for. When everyone gets hungry, there's no need to leave the Aquarium. Dining options range from quick bites like burgers and hot dogs to sit-down favorites including mac and cheese and barbecue.

Tour the USS Lexington

Take a short drive to the USS Lexington Museum and climb aboard the historic WWII aircraft carrier. Explore the flight deck and get an up-close look at aircraft before heading inside for interactive experiences like flight simulators, virtual battle stations, and escape rooms. Families can also join guided tours through different areas of the ship to learn more about life aboard the USS Lexington and its history.

Grab Dinner at Brewster Street

Wrap up the day at the Downtown location of Brewster Street Icehouse, where burgers, live music, and a casual atmosphere make it easy to settle in for dinner after a full day of exploring. Want to venture farther out? Brewster Street also has Southside and Padre Island locations, each offering the same great food and laid-back energy with a different setting and atmosphere.

Day Two: Island Adventures

Hit the Sand at Michael J. Ellis Beach

Start the morning at Michael J. Ellis Beach & Seawall, where paved parking makes it easy to unload the family's beach gear and get everyone onto the sand. The seawall gives families another place to walk along the coast, while convenient showers make cleaning up after the beach a little easier. Just off the beach, Sandbox Beach Bar adds even more to the day with food, drinks, live music, pickleball, sand volleyball, a playground, and room for the family to hang out before heading to the next stop.

Grab Lunch on Sunset Island

Head to Snoopy's Pier on Sunset Island for a casual waterfront lunch overlooking the Laguna Madre. Dig into old-fashioned seafood favorites while enjoying the fresh Gulf breeze and views from the water. Just make sure to leave room for dessert. Scoopy's Veranda is right next door, where handcrafted treats made with Blue Bell Ice Cream give the family a sweet finish before the afternoon's next adventure. Try the Chocolate Barnacle, a layered dessert with a sugar cookie bottom, cookies and cream ice cream middle, and frozen chocolate mousse on top, or get their delicious banana split in a waffle cone bowl, big enough for the whole family to share.

Choose Your Family Challenge

Keep the afternoon going with a little friendly competition. Take on the outdoor pirate-themed mini-golf course at Treasure Island Golf & Games, then check out the indoor arcade to keep the fun going. Or take a short drive to Flour Bluff and turn up the competition at In The Game Funtrackers. Race around the go-kart track, battle it out on the bumper boats, play a round of mini golf, or head inside to choose from more than 80 arcade games.

Day Three: See More of the City

Start With a Local Favorite

Kick off Day Three with breakfast at Andy's Country Kitchen, a family-style spot serving homemade country cooking in a retro diner setting. Breakfast is served all day alongside traditional favorites, but don't fill up on the complimentary blueberry muffins before your food arrives. Kids will enjoy the train tracks around the ceiling, where model trains travel along tracks above the dining room.

Visit the Botanical Gardens

Spend the day exploring the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center, where gardens, animals, trails, and hands-on experiences give families plenty of reasons to stick around. Step inside the 2,600-square-foot Butterfly House, meet more than 60 resident reptiles in the Reptile Room, and look for parrots, tortoises, native birds, and even alligators at Gator Lake. Follow the Mary Hope Brennecke Nature Trail to the Bird Tower, explore the Wetland Awareness Boardwalk, or wander through gardens filled with orchids, plumerias, roses, tropical plants, and more. With so much spread across the grounds, this is one stop worth giving plenty of time to explore.

Cool Off With a Creative Treat

After a day outside, cool off with a treat that's a little more fun than the usual dessert stop. At Mamako Café, explore Asian-inspired sweets like character ice cream cones, mochi ice cream, Kakigori (Japanese shaved ice topped with your choice of flavor), and fish-shaped Taiyaki with sweet or savory fillings. Or head to Ninja Mochi for colorful mochi donuts alongside flavored teas, boba, Korean corn dogs, and Tanghulu (candy sugar shell coated fruit skewers).

Catch a Hooks Game

If baseball season lines up with your visit, check the Corpus Christi Hooks schedule to see if the team is playing at home at. The Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros offers more than baseball, with a kids zone featuring a rock-climbing wall, little league field, basketball court, and playground, plus an on-site Whataburger and plenty of ballpark eats. Be sure to stop by the gift shops and browse souvenirs.  If you catch a Friday home game, stay after the final out for Friday Fireworks over Corpus Christi Bay.

Three days may be enough to get the family adventure started, but there are plenty of ways to experience Corpus Christi on your next trip. Bring your four-legged travel buddy along for a dog-friendly Corpus Christi getaway, or see how far your vacation dollars can go with a Corpus Christi budget itinerary packed with affordable ways to experience the coast. However you travel, there’s always another side of the Gulf Coast Capital waiting to be explored.
