3-Day Corpus Christi Itinerary

for Travelers Over 65

There’s no need to rush a good trip to the coast. Spend three days exploring Corpus Christi through local history, art, wildlife, shopping, and plenty of time near the water. Designed with travelers 65+ in mind, this itinerary pairs some of the city’s best-known attractions with local favorites and laid-back experiences, leaving room to explore Corpus Christi at your own pace.

DAY ONE: HISTORY, ART & THE BAY

Start With Breakfast at Hester’s Café

Ease into your first morning with breakfast at Hester’s Café in Six Points, a locally loved spot for fresh, house-made favorites. Choose from a breakfast pastry, omelet, or Sunrise Bowl, and pair it with one of Hester’s signature coffees. Be sure to ask about the daily coffee flavor before heading out for a day along the Bayfront.

Explore Corpus Christi History

Make your way downtown to the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, where exhibits explore centuries of South Texas history, science, culture, and life along the Gulf Coast. Learn more about the people and events that shaped the region while exploring artifacts and stories tied to Corpus Christi and the surrounding area.

Browse Art by the Bay

Continue to the Art Museum of South Texas, where more than 1,900 works of art make up a collection highlighting artists from Texas and beyond. Browse works from the museum’s permanent collection alongside temporary exhibitions, and learn more about the artists and stories represented throughout the galleries. If you’re ready for a break, stop by Elizabeth’s at the Art Museum for Mediterranean-inspired bites and drinks overlooking Corpus Christi Bay.

Discover Local Art

Continue along the Bayfront to the Art Center of Corpus Christi, a longtime hub for local art and creativity in the heart of the Bayfront district. Admission is free, so take your time browsing rotating exhibitions featuring local and regional artists, peek into the Clay Studio, and explore the gift shop for original artwork and locally made pieces. Depending on when you visit, you may also find art classes, special events, or the weekly Grow Local Farmers’ Market, where local growers and artisan vendors gather every Wednesday.

Stay at the Art Center for dinner at Gallery 41, where views of the marina come with a connection to the building’s past. The restaurant’s name pays tribute to its history, with “41” referencing 1941, an important year in the building’s original era, and “Gallery” recognizing its longtime connection to the arts. Settle in for dinner while enjoying a space where local art, food, and Corpus Christi history meet.

DAY TWO: LOCAL ATTRACTIONS & SHOPPING

Breakfast at Price’s Chef

Start Day 2 with a Corpus Christi classic. Serving the city since 1940, Price’s Chef in Six Points is known for old-school diner favorites and plenty of local history. Order pancakes, an omelet, Texas shaped waffles, or biscuits with sausage gravy, pour another cup of coffee, and enjoy a breakfast spot that has been part of Corpus Christi for generations.

Explore the Texas State Aquarium

Spend the morning at the Texas State Aquarium, the largest aquarium in Texas and home to more than 15 exhibits featuring marine and coastal environments from around the world. Wander through colorful habitats like the Caribbean Sea, Blue Hole, Coral Reef, and Amazon, where sharks, tropical fish, flamingos, jellyfish, and plenty of other wildlife await. Check the day’s schedule for a live presentation at Dolphin Bay, where Atlantic bottlenose dolphins show off their skills while trainers share more about their behavior and conservation. Along the way, you can also spot sea turtles, otters, stingrays, sloths, exotic birds, and other animals throughout the Aquarium.

If you’re visiting on a weekend, make time for the Port of Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue. The center cares for marine mammals, sea turtles, raptors, shorebirds, and other wildlife, and visitors can explore its interpretive gallery and learn more about the rehabilitation work happening behind the scenes. Admission to the Wildlife Rescue Center is included in your aquarium ticket.

Shop and Dine at Lamar Park

After a morning at the Aquarium, slow things down with an afternoon at Lamar Park. This open-air shopping center is home to locally owned boutiques and specialty shops, making it an easy place to browse for clothing, gifts, home décor, and other finds without a set agenda. Take your time exploring, then stick around for dinner or drinks at one of the restaurants throughout the Lamar Park area.

For light bites paired with one of the most robust wine selections in Corpus Christi, settle in at Tannins Wine Bar & Tapas. If you’re in the mood for Italian, Bellino Ristorante Italiano and Mamma Lina offer two options from the same owners. Head to Bellino for Sicilian dishes, or choose Mamma Lina for comforting Italian favorites in a casual setting. Head to The Post at Lamar Park for pre-Prohibition style craft cocktails and great dining options in a setting crafted to reflect and pay homage to a U.S. Post Office. For Mexican cuisine, YOLA Cocina Mexicana rounds out the choices with a menu of traditional Mexican dishes inspired by the owner's travels over 27 countries.

DAY THREE: GARDENS, GULF & SUNSET

Explore the Botanical Gardens

Start the morning at the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center, where gardens, native plants, wildlife, and walking trails offer plenty to explore. Wander through the Orchid Conservatory, Bromeliad Conservatory, Rose Garden, Plumeria Garden, and other curated spaces filled with plants that thrive in South Texas. Step inside the 2,600-square-foot Butterfly House to spot native and migrating butterflies among colorful blooms, then meet some of the Nature Center’s more than 60 resident reptiles. Birders can also keep an eye out for native and migratory species along the Wetland Awareness Boardwalk, nature trails, and Bird Tower.

Spend the Day on Padre Island

Head toward Padre Island for brunch at Ridley’s, a locally owned restaurant and bakery for breakfast or brunch. The menu covers everything from house-made biscuits and gravy, bennies, and frittatas to shrimp and grits, brisket hash, pancakes, sandwiches, and seafood, making it easy to fuel up before an afternoon at the beach.

Experience Padre Island National Seashore

Continue south to Padre Island National Seashore, where more than 65 miles of Gulf shoreline meet one of the largest stretches of undeveloped barrier island in the world. The park stretches between the Gulf and the Laguna Madre, a shallow hypersaline lagoon that is saltier than the ocean and supports an important coastal ecosystem. Start at the Malaquite Visitor Center to learn more about the island’s wildlife, plants, and history before heading down to the beach. Spend the afternoon birding, watching for wildlife, walking the shoreline, or beachcombing for shells. Little Shell Beach and Big Shell Beach are especially known for shelling, thanks to converging offshore currents that deposit concentrations of shells along this stretch of coast. Both are farther down South Beach and require four-wheel drive, so check beach and driving conditions before heading out. Back at the Malaquite Visitor Center, the rocking chairs overlooking the Gulf are a great place to sit down, relax, and take in the water from a different perspective.

Enjoy a Sunset and Waterfront Dining

Head toward Sunset Island and get out on the water with Baywatch Tours. Book a sunset cruise to see the Laguna Madre from the water and watch the colors change across the coast as the sun goes down. After your cruise, choose between two longtime waterfront favorites overlooking the Laguna Madre. Keep things casual with seafood at Snoopy’s Pier, or head next door to Doc’s Seafood & Steaks for another waterfront space with stunning views of the sunset. Grab a table overlooking the water and settle in for dinner with views across the Laguna Madre.
