CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (April 29, 2025) — National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), observed from May 4–10, 2025, shines a spotlight on the U.S. travel industry’s essential role in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and enhancing the nation’s global competitiveness.
“Travel is one of our nation's most powerful economic engines—supporting millions of jobs, fueling businesses and propelling industries forward,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman. “National Travel and Tourism Week reinforces the pivotal role travel plays in building a stronger, more prosperous America."
Since its establishment in 1983, NTTW has underscored the travel industry's critical contributions to U.S. economic strength, community vitality, and quality of life. In 2024, the travel industry generated $2.9 trillion in economic output, supported more than 15 million jobs, and produced $190 billion in tax revenue—equivalent to $1,490 per household.
Locally, the travel industry’s impact is equally significant. In Corpus Christi, travel and tourism contribute over $1.5 billion annually, supporting local businesses and fostering long-term community growth.
To honor travel’s impact, Visit Corpus Christi hosted a proclamation this morning at the Corpus Christi City Council meeting, officially kicking off next week’s festivities. Community programming for NTTW includes the following initiatives:
Coffee Waves Partnership
Visit Corpus Christi is celebrating the Power of Travel by partnering with four Coffee Waves coffee shop locations—Alameda, London, Uptown, and Flour Bluff. From May 5–9, 2025, the Corpus Christi public can enjoy a free 12 oz. hot coffee, served in a special "Power of Travel" sleeve that highlights the economic impact of tourism. Guests can customize their coffee with their choice of flavor and milk. Offer available at participating locations while supplies last.
City-Wide Scavenger Hunt
Visit Corpus Christi will also launch a city-wide social media scavenger hunt to commemorate National Travel and Tourism Week. The campaign runs from Wednesday, May 7 through Friday, May 9, spotlighting Corpus Christi’s top tourist hotspots and attractions. Each morning at 10:00 AM, followers can check @visitcorpuschristi on Instagram and Facebook for daily clues to find hidden prizes across the city.
“National Travel and Tourism Week is a time to honor the incredible impact our industry has on Corpus Christi and beyond,” said Brook Kaufman, President and CEO of Visit Corpus Christi. “With over $1.5 billion in visitor spending annually, travel fuels our local economy, supports thousands of jobs, and connects us to a broader story of American growth and opportunity."
