Meet Lydia Blanco Garza

FOUNDER AND TALENT AGENT AT THE BLANCO AGENCY

Before Lydia Blanco Garza ever signed talent or built a respected agency, she was a four-year-old standing on a preschool stage, dressed in costume and soaking in the experience. It was her first glimpse of what it felt like to perform, even if she didn’t yet understand why it mattered to her.

"I remember that feeling so clearly. I loved the attention, the pretending, the energy of it. Even at that age, it stayed with me."

That early experience became the starting point for years of involvement in theater. Lydia immersed herself in theater throughout middle school and high school, eventually majoring in the craft in college after realizing it was the one place she consistently excelled. Acting was not just a passion; it was the path that made sense. After graduating from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, she moved to Austin, where she signed with her first agent and began working professionally in commercials and independent films. From there, she took a leap of faith to Los Angeles with little more than savings and determination, spending a decade building a working acting career.

Those years in Hollywood gave her firsthand experience working in the industry, but they also led to a pivotal realization. Lydia wanted more than credits. She wanted a life that extended beyond the cycle of auditions, booking work, and coming home. With that clarity, she made the difficult decision to step away from acting and return to Texas, setting her sights on casting and coaching and using her experience to support actors from the other side of the process.

Eventually, life brought her back to Corpus Christi after her husband decided to open a business in the area. While the move made sense personally, it left Lydia professionally searching for her place in a city without an established film infrastructure. Rather than seeing limitations, she began to see where gaps existed and how she might fill them. She opened an acting studio and began coaching children, teens, and adults, teaching them not only performance skills but also the realities of the industry.

"I wanted to teach people how to be professional actors. Not just how to act, but how the business works, what’s expected, and how to prepare for real opportunities."

As her students grew stronger and became ready for representation, many began asking if she would be their agent. At first, she resisted, as representation was not part of what she originally offered. But the more she reflected on those conversations, the more she realized that Corpus Christi had never had a true talent agency focused on actors. That realization led to the creation of The Blanco Agency, which has now been operating for more than a decade and represents talent locally and nationally.

Built on Lydia’s firsthand industry experience, The Blanco Agency focuses on developing professional actors and connecting them with opportunities across film, television, and commercial work. While based in Corpus Christi, the agency represents talent in major markets nationwide, maintaining a selective roster centered on preparation, professionalism, and long-term growth.

Though Lydia’s roster extends far beyond the Coastal Bend, her presence in Corpus Christi has played a critical role in identifying and nurturing local talent capable of competing on larger stages. She is often the person filmmakers, producers, and creatives turn to when searching for actors, a role she approaches with care, shaped by her own journey through the industry.

Lydia briefly served as Film Commissioner for the Corpus Christi Film Commission, contributing to efforts supporting film activity in the city. She ultimately returned her full focus to her agency, where she continues to support actors navigating the industry. Her decision reflects a consistent thread that has guided her entire career, from childhood performances to Hollywood sets to building opportunity at home. It has always been about storytelling, people, and possibility. That perspective also shapes the way she talks to aspiring actors just starting out.

"The best thing you can do is get involved. Create work, collaborate, learn the business, and build your community. Don’t wait for someone to choose you. Start doing, and everything else starts to click."

Today, Lydia Blanco Garza continues to shape the film community by investing in people, helping them find their footing, and reminding them that meaningful careers are built not only by where you go, but by how you choose to support others along the way.
