Juneteenth is a national holiday celebrating the liberation of enslaved people after the Civil War. Originating right here on the Gulf Coast in 1865, the war truly ended when the message of freedom finally reached Texas. Since then, Juneteenth has become a meaningful celebration across the country, but it remains a uniquely powerful tradition in Texas and in the Gulf Coast Capital. Corpus Christi honors this legacy with vibrant celebrations that spotlight Black culture, community, and joy. From live music and gospel to rooftop mixers and cultural festivals, here are four Juneteenth celebrations you can't miss this year:

Movie Night Kick-Off

June 3 | Del Mar College Economic Development Center | 6:00 p.m.

The NAACP kicks off this year’s celebrations with a laid-back evening of community and cinema. Head to the Del Mar College Economic Development Center for a special Juneteenth movie screening that brings people together through storytelling, reflection, and shared history. This family-friendly event runs from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and offers a meaningful start to the season.

Coastal Bend Juneteenth Festival

June 20-22 | Water’s Edge Park | Various Times

Presented by TABPHE Corpus Christi, the annual Coastal Bend Juneteenth Festival returns to Water’s Edge Park with three full days of live music, food, culture, and community activities right on the Corpus Christi Bayfront. Festivalgoers can enjoy everything from the inaugural 3-on-3 basketball tournament and a free health pavilion to cultural exhibits and a full food truck park, all while enjoying live music.

Rooftop Juneteenth Mixer

June 19 | RETRO Corpus | 6:00 p.m.

Hosted by the Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce, this elevated celebration takes place on the rooftop at RETRO Corpus in the heart of downtown. From 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., enjoy panoramic city views, music, and networking at this Juneteenth mixer designed for young professionals and community leaders. Admission is $15 at the door, and a cash bar will be available. Come raise a glass to freedom and connection in a vibrant, social setting.

Gospel Concert

June 29| St. John Baptist Church | 6:00 p.m.

Enjoy a soul-stirring gospel concert at St. John Baptist Church presented by the NAACP. From 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., experience the uplifting sounds of the renowned Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church Music Ministry, visiting from Houston. This spiritual gathering brings the community together in gratitude, reflection, and celebration through music rooted in tradition and hope.
