Beach Permit Required

North Packery Channel Beach, locally known as J.P. Luby, is one of Corpus Christi’s go-to spots for surfing, with some of the best surfing conditions in the area thanks to offshore winds from the northwest. Surfers often head toward the jetty near the Zahn Road entrance at Mile Marker 207 to paddle out. The beach is also a hub for watersports, including kiteboarding, wakeboarding, and jet skiing, making North Packery a natural stop for anyone looking to spend an active day on the Gulf.

South Packery Channel Beach

Beach Permit Required

Just across the channel, South Packery Channel Beach offers another place to paddle out when the wind and waves line up. The waves here tend to be smaller and calmer than those at North Packery, offering a different surfing experience along the Gulf. Its location alongside the Packery Channel jetty gives surfers access to Gulf waters, while jetty fishing offers another way to spend time along the coast. Whether you’re heading out with a board or taking a break between sets, this stretch of shoreline offers plenty of room to enjoy the water.

Padre Balli Park

Beach Permit Required

Padre Balli Park offers a long stretch of Gulf shoreline where surfing and shore fishing are both part of the scene. Surfers often head to the waters near Bob Hall Pier, the Padre Island landmark that officially reopened in February 2026 after a full rebuild. With plenty of shoreline to spread out and direct access to the Gulf, Padre Balli Park is another spot to keep in mind when conditions are right for surfing in Corpus Christi.

Beach Parking Permits

Planning to park right on the sand? A $12 beach parking permit is required for vehicles parked along designated sections of Whitecap Beach, North Packery Beach/J.P. Luby, and Padre Balli Park. Permits are valid for the calendar year and can be purchased at locations throughout Corpus Christi, while off-beach parking does not require a permit.
