Corpus Christi is FILLED with a plethora of history and famous people! Bet you didn't know that these iconic celebrities were born here in the Gulf Coast Capital. Read on to see if you recognize these familiar faces!

1. Kevin Abstract

Musician, rapper and singer-songwriter Ian Simpson (better known as Kevin Abstract) released his debut album MTV1987 in 2014 and received attention from major music blogs and magazine publications. Before going solo, he was part of the popular rap group, Brockhampton. You'll even find a street with the same name as the group in Corpus Christi!

Kevin Abstract's influences include names like Frank Ocean, Kanye West and Kid Cudi.

 

2. Roger Creager

Texas country music singer-songwriter Roger Creager is a favorite on the radio and can be seen from time to time at Brewster Street Icehouse on Texas Throwdown Thursdays! Some of his popular singles include "Gulf Coast Time" and "The Everclear Song".

 

3. Farrah Fawcett

Actress Farrah Fawcett graduated from Corpus Christi's Ray High School. She's best known for the television hit series Charlie's Angels.

4. Ernestine Jackson

Ernestine Jackson made her Broadway debut in 1967 as Irene Molloy in the all-black cast of Hello, Dolly! She has also acted in several feature films and has won several Tony Awards including the Theatre World Award and a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical.

 

5. Jeremy Jordan

Jeremy Jordan is an American actor, dancer and singer. He has performed on Broadway and in television and film, as well as in other theatrical productions. He is best known for the roles of Jack Kelly in the 2012 musical Newsies and Clyde Barrow in the musical Bonnie & Clyde. He currently plays Winslow on the superhero drama series Supergirl. Jeremy graduated from Carroll High School.

 

6. Ashley Kidd

World champion wake surfer, Ashley Kidd is a native of Corpus Christi, Texas. She's been recently ranked number 1 in the women's professional division of the Competitive Wake Surf Association world rankings.

 

7. Bobby and Terry Labonte

NASCAR superstars Bobby and Terry Labonte are not only from Corpus Christi, but are the only two brothers to have both won the Sprint Cup championship. Talk about brotherly competition. Labonte Park in Corpus Christi is named after these hometown heros!

 

8. Chris "Whipper" Layton

Graduated from Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, Chris "Whipper" Layton played drums in the band Double Trouble with front-runner Stevie Ray Vaughn. He toured on the incredible Hendrix Experience.

 

9. Eva Longoria

Actress, producer and director Eva Longoria grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University Kingsville. She was crowned Miss Corpus Christi in 1998. She is known to love hometown favorite, Boat-N-Net.

 

10. Victoria Moroles

Actress Victoria Moroles is from Corpus Christi and was raised in Rockport, growing up in the local art scene alongside her artistic relatives. She is best known for her role as Margot in Netflix's Never Have I Ever and Andie on the Disney Channel show Liv and Maddie. She also has played Hayden Romero on MTV's Teen Wolf since its fifth season. Recently, she played the starring role of Lupe in Plan B on Hulu.

 

11. Lary Norman

Born in 1947 in Corpus Christi, Larry David Norman is known to be a pioneer for Christian Rock music.

 

12. William Norris "Billy" Powell

Musician and songwriter William Norris "Billy" Powell was a longtime keyboardist of Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1970 until his death in 2009.

 

13. Jessie Pavelka

Jessie Pavelka, an American fitness expert and television host specializing in extreme weight loss, went to Calallen High school.

 

14. Selena Quintanilla

Known as the Queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla was an American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, model, actress and fashion designer. She is known as one of the most influential Latin artists of all time and is credited for catapulting a music genre into the mainstream market.

15. Pepe Serna

Actor Pepe Serna has appeared in over 100 films, most notably Car Wash and Scarface, where he played Montana's friend Angel Fernandez (whose character was involved in the notorious "chainsaw scene").

 

16. Lori Singer

Actress Lori Singer is best known as the female lead and Kevin Bacon's co-star, Ariel Moore in Footloose and in the television hit show Fame. Fun fact: she's also a Julliard-trained cellist.

 

17. Jose Trevino (BONUS!)

All-Star Jose Trevino is a Corpus Christi native who plays for the New York Yankees! The Yankees catcher first started with the Texas Rangers before playing with the Yankees and becoming an American League All-Star Reserve at catcher in 2022.
