Juneteenth is a national holiday celebrating the liberation of freed slaves after the Civil War. Originating here on the Gulf Coast in 1865, the war officially ended when the message of liberation was finally brought to Texas. Since then, Juneteenth celebrations spread far and wide, but remain a special tradition in Texas and in the Gulf Coast Capital. Here are five Juneteenth celebrations you can't miss this year:

 

Juneteenth Kickoff

Join TABPHE for a special celebration kicking off 10 days of Juneteenth celebrations in Corpus Christi! This kickoff party will have networking opportunities, hors d'oeuvres, and line dancing lessons!

Juneteenth Spoken Word Night

Enjoy spoken word pieces from local poets about social issues, networking, and desserts!

  • Location: Coral Bean Cafe, 7426 S. Staples Street

 

Black Wall Street

Sip on beer at a local brewery while checking out local vendors and live music from Cadillac Muzlik.

 

 

Corpus Christi Juneteenth Festival

This highly anticipated event is back for 2022 and we cannot wait for a fun-filled day of music, a kids zone, food trucks, and more. And don't miss out on special performances from CUPID (creator of the song "Cupid Shuffle"), Chalie Boy, and Bayou City Brass Band. There will also be social services, medical screenings, and a Ride for Freedom starting from Whataburger Field at 11:00 a.m.

Juneteenth for the Crest

This is a family fun day with free BBQ, music, and games in the historic Hillcrest neighborhood. BBQ is first come, first served so come early!
