Dia de los Muertos Street Festival is a true Corpus Christi tradition that embodies the soul of South Texas. This highly anticipated event brings the streets of downtown to life through with entertainment, art experiences, and all-things local. Expect to find colorful calaveras (sugar skulls) everywhere, artisans lining the streets, music rumbling the ground, and creative costumes at every turn.
Sugar Skulls are Everywhere
Sugar skulls represent a departed soul. They are a reflection of the folk art style of big happy smiles, colorful paint, sparkly tin, and glittery adornments. At Dia de los Muertos, you can find various face painters ready to unleash their artistic abilities. There will be ample opportunities to have your face painted any way you like, right on-site!
Community Ofrenda Displays are Available for Viewing
Dia de los Muertos is a holiday that focuses on gathering family and friends to remember loved ones who have passed away and help support their spiritual journey. The ofrendas, or "Altars of Remembrance" will be on display in the former Ward Building on Chaparral at the corner of Peoples St. for the duration of the festival. Walk through this beautiful exhibit and remember those who have passed. Every year, you're bound to find an ofrenda dedicated to the Queen of Tejano, Selena.
Live Music Throughout the Festival
Each stage provides a different experience, one for popular Latin-influenced music, one for more traditional cultural performances, and one for up-and-coming Texas bands. It's not a street festival without a showcase of top Texas talent!
Incredible Art for Viewing and Purchasing
The festival brings in over 90 different art vendors lining the streets of downtown. As the holidays are fast approaching, start to get your gifts tackled with some of the best handmade products. Shop for jewelry, fabrics, crafts, art, clothes, and of course, Dia de los Muertos memorabilia!
Plenty of Local Food Vendors to Choose From
Food Trucks are taking over by storm, and some of the best food in South Texas is located right out of the truck! Satisfy your hunger and enjoy all the different options of coastal cuisine, Asian fusion, and lots and lots of tacos!
Kids Can Get In on the Fun
It wouldn't be a festival without something special for young visitors! Bring along the kiddos to venture through the Children's Corner! There will be plenty of activities for them to enjoy like climbing, painting, jumping, and more. The Children's Corner will operate from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m.
There's no festival quite like this one! Coast your way over and enjoy an epic night full of color and culture. Looking for ways to make the most out of your stay?
